Illamasqua AW Once collection

I know I’ll moan once the sun finally takes its final bow, and I know i’ll grumble when I leave work at 6pm and stumble out into the bitter darkness, but a small part of me always gets excited when Autumn draws in.

Why? Because it means I can wear my signature autumnal tones without people wrinkling their nose, and that it’s finally time to rescue my vintage faux fur and cloche hat from the closet. Plus, I love the make-up launches between September and Christmas- but then what red lipstick wearer doesn’t hey?

But, the one brand whose launches I look forward to, like a kid before Christmas, is Illamasqua. Ever since I first sat glued to the spot watching Alex Box work her magic at the launch of the Manchester Trafford counter 6 years ago, (I think?!) I have been hooked.

Can you spot an elfin haired ginger watching the talented Ms Box?!

Yesterday saw the launch of their latest collection Once, and I was of course, at Once in my local store drooling over the new range. The beautiful imagery adorned with vintage looking roses, in an array of autumnal shades (my favourite flower in case anyone fancies sending me a dozen or two?!) surrounded by an intriguing looking collection. The model shots are just as beautiful, and almost have a Miss Havisham feel to them, in my eyes.

So not only is this collection advertising grabbing me- the range is too. Especially the completely new product, Vintage Metallix, cream shadow. Those of you who have worked with me will know, I am the ultimate obsessive of cream products, with Illamasqua’s cream pigments already high on my favourites list. Yet, the texture of Vintage Metallix is more towards a MAC Paint Pot, and similar to budget brand Maybelline’s 24 Hour Colour Tattoo, creamy to begin whilst drying to a non-crease, smudge free finish. I need all three shades in my kit immediately! (And as a bonus- the lids are rose gold…..my favourite metal of all. obviously I need these!)

Courtier is a soft, dusky rose, Embellish is a rich chocolate and Bibelot an olive-green, with all three shot through with golden tones. I’m not one to follow the colour wheel rules, but personally, I think Courtier and Embellish will look amazing on blue and green eyes, whilst Bibelot will make brown and hazel eyes pop. Just like my other cream products, I will no doubt use these alone or as a base for stronger eye looks. Cream products are fantastic under powders when you need extra ‘oomph!’

To complement our soft, creamy Autumn eyes, we have Naked Rose Powder Blush and the glittery golden toned Opulent Sheer Lipgloss, both current Illamasqua customer favourites. Plus, we have new kid on the block in the Sheer Lipgloss range, Exquisite, a soft pink-nude, again shot through with golden tones, ideal for warming up our pale winter complexions.

Finally, it’s time for a pop of colour- this time on our talons. Melange, a teal shade shot through with…..yes, gold glitter, is a beautifully unique shade, and very feminine. A great way to try a hint of colour this Autumn.
